The school was originally formed in 1965 by a group of parents who
wanted a school for their three to five year-olds. The school met at
various locations throughout the years, but our home since 1979 has been
at the Lee Congregational Church.
Teacher/Director:
Brenda Nye-Power has a degree in elementary education and taught in
public schools for eight years. A former Coop President and
parent, she was involved in our school for five years prior to
becoming our teacher in 1994. Brenda holds monthly
parent-teacher meetings and is available for individual
conferences. She also conducts training sessions for parents at
the beginning of each school year.
Brenda's love of nature has strongly influenced the Coop's nature-based
curriculum. This curriculum encourages our children to develop a
lifelong appreciation for nature. LCNS students learn about preserving
and protecting our environment. This strong personal connection to the
environment is achieved through many diverse activities including walks
through the Lee Town Woods behind our school. Acorn hunts, choosing a
special tree in the "Hugging Tree Woods" and conducting wildflower hunts
to count Lady Slippers are all favorite adventures the children enjoy.
Administration:
The Lee Cooperative Nursery School (LCNS) is run by the parents of the
children attending the school. A Board of Directors is elected by the
current parents to run the actual business of the school. All parents
join a committee that helps facilitate the administration of the school.
